Activists to Honor Community Members Disappeared from SLO County Jail Since January

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — At least 77 community members have been disappeared by ICE from the San Luis Obispo County Jail in 2026. Every one of these individuals was slated for release. Every one of them deserved to walk out that door and back to their families, friends, and community. Indivisible SLO County is calling on the community to bear witness at two events this week — Sunday, July 26, and Tuesday, July 28.

On Sunday, participants will gather at Highway 1 and Kansas Avenue for a rally, then proceed silently to the county jail, where they will file into the lobby and hold seats with signs marking the dates individuals were taken from the jail.

On Tuesday, participants will gather at the County Government Center, then proceed silently into the Board of Supervisors meeting, dressed in black and carrying signs marking the dates individuals were taken from the jail, for a sit-in throughout the session.

The Board of Supervisors has voted twice this year — April and June — to restrict ICE's access to county property. ICE has ignored both resolutions, returning to the jail repeatedly, including three consecutive days immediately following the June vote. No consequences have followed either time.

Neighbors, local organizations, and allies committed to human rights and government accountability are invited to join.
